School of Industrial Fisheries was established in 1976 as the Department of Industrial Fisheries under the erstwhile University of Cochin for postgraduate teaching and research on all aspects of fisheries science and technology. The department was elevated to the status of the School under CUSAT since 1995 by recognizing the multidisciplinary nature of the programme (M.Sc. Degree in Industrial Fisheries) and progress achieved in teaching, research and outreach activities in various facets of fisheries. The school started offering an innovative professional degree programme viz., Master of Fisheries Science (M.F.Sc.) in Seafood Safety and Trade since 2012. Ph.D. programmes in fisheries and allied fields are also offered under the faculty of marine sciences, since its inception. The school produced more than 100 PhDs and 1000 professional post graduates to lead the fisheries sector of the world. The post graduates of the school are well received by the fisheries industry particularly seafood industry both in Indian and abroad. The alumni of the School are spearheading the Fisheries Administration, Research and Academic institutions under the state and central governments.
