Prof (Dr)M.Junaid Bushiri assumed office of the Vice Chancellor on 21^st September 2024.A.N.

Prof.(Dr) M. Junaid Bushiri, currently a Senior Professor hailing from Trivandrum, has been working in the Department of Physics at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) since 2006. He served as the Head of the Department of Physics, CUSAT from November 2, 2016, to November 1, 2019 and currently chairs the Board of Studies in Physics. Prof. Bushiri has also been a long-standing member of the Senate of CUSAT.

Before his tenure at CUSAT, Prof. Bushiri worked at prominent international institutions, including the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Academia Sinica in Taiwan, the Institute for Molecular Science in Okazaki, Japan, and the University of Kerala. He also served at the Department of Física Aplicada, University of Valencia, Spain, from May 2009 to May 2010. In November 2022, he was a Visiting Professor at the Tokyo University of Science.

His diverse research interests include crystal growth, 2D materials, semiconducting thin films for optoelectronic and luminescent applications, nanomaterials for electronic, luminescence, water splitting, catalytic applications and Raman spectroscopy. As a Principal Investigator, Prof. Bushiri has successfully led two research projects funded by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment. Under his mentorship, nearly 40 students have completed their Master's projects, 12 have earned their MPhil degrees, and 14 have been awarded PhDs. He has also mentored 3 Post-Doctoral Fellows.

Prof. Bushiri has published 72 research papers in internationally reputed, peer- reviewed journals and has an impressive h-index of 22. In addition to his research, he serves as a reviewer for several prestigious international journals, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in his field.
